Professional Development Opportunities
The Fowler Museum is committed to strengthening global arts and humanities education, serving as a resource for all educators in the Los Angeles area and beyond. In addition to developing curriculum guides to complement major exhibitions, the Fowler Museum hosts workshops and intensive Teacher Institutes that employ project-based learning methods as the framework for further inquiry into global arts.
Professional development opportunities, including special workshops with guest facilitators, are posted as they become available.
2020 Teacher Institute | Art Beyond Borders: Social Justice and Global Arts

Ready to learn more about the power of global arts in today’s world? The Fowler Museum at UCLA is thrilled to invite educators teaching grades 6-12 to apply for our three-day Teacher Institute, Art Beyond Borders: Social Justice and Global Arts. During this free professional development opportunity, educators will explore interdisciplinary and multicultural connections between visual art and social justice issues.
三升体育投注-即时比分Within an intimate learning environment, educators will examine global arts through guided tours and workshops with visiting artists, curators, and invited content experts; moderated group discussions highlighting critical contemporary issues associated with the art on view; collaborative art-making experiences designed to foster community; and peer-to-peer teaching opportunities to practice new approaches.
Learning experiences will be framed through four overlapping themes: 1) immigration and identity, 2) climate change and the natural world, 3) colonialism and globalism, and 4) gender and sexuality.
三升体育投注-即时比分The Teacher Institute consists of three full-day Saturdays (1/18, 2/1, 2/15) of training. No prior experience in the arts is required.

Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. Priority will be given to 6th-12th grade teachers at a Title 1 school. If you teach a different grade level and would like to attend, please indicate in your application how you feel this professional development would be beneficial to your grade level.
The Fowler Museum is proud to offer the Teacher Institute free of charge, and all participants will receive free parking三升体育投注-即时比分 each program day.
三升体育投注-即时比分The Teacher Institute is scheduled on three alternating Saturdays: January 18, February 1, and February 15 from 10am—3:30pm each day. All sessions will take place at the Fowler Museum at UCLA (308 Charles E Young Dr N, Los Angeles, CA 90024).
三升体育投注-即时比分Yes! After successfully attending all three days and completing the assignments provided, LAUSD educators will receive 1 LAUSD Salary Point with Multicultural Credit.
Educators who successfully complete the Teacher Institute will be eligible to receive a transportation scholarship (up to $500) to bring their students back to the Fowler Museum of a guided tour during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 academic years. More details will be provided during the program.
